Student Training for Observational Research in Meteorology
The STORM program was started in 2019, with the completion of CMU's mobile mesonet. For the next few years, the program introduced several students to field research using the mobile mesonet, radiosondes, and other instruments through collaboration with scientists from the Illinois State Water Survey. Starting in 2025, STORM is a NSF-funded opportunity for rising sophomores to experience field research in the middle of Lake Michigan, at the CMU Biological Station on Beaver Island, with students from CMU and the University of Northern Colorado participating.
