American martens were reintroduced to the
northern Lower Peninsula of Michigan in the mid-1980's. Our study will examine
the spatial ecology of American martens in the northern Lower Peninsula of
Michigan approximately 20 years after reintroduction. Results of this
research will provide important baseline data on the status and viability of
the marten population and make an assessment of the amount of favorable
marten habitat in the Lower Peninsula.
This research is being conducted in collaboration with Dr. Brad Swanson and in cooperation with the Grand Traverse Band of
Ottawa Indians and MDNR. This research was funded by CMU,
Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians, U.S. Fish &
Wildlife Service, and Safari Club International.
