Dr. Itzel Marquez received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Chemical Engineering from Universidad de las Americas Puebla, in Mexico. She
later received her PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Arizona. After her PhD she joined the Water and Energy Sustainable Technology
Center from the University of Arizona as a Postdoctoral Associate.

She has been doing research in wastewater treatment and wastewater reuse since her Master’s degree, from physicochemical and biological treatment,
to advanced wastewater treatment. She also has experience in mathematical modelling of pollutant kinetics and transport in water and air.

Besides her academic experience she has experience in the pharmaceutical and oil industries, where she worked as a process engineer. She is also
interested in Science Communication and increasing diversity in STEM fields.

Join our team
The WaTTeR lab participates in two graduate programs.

Graduate students and Postdoctoral researchers
	EES PhD program
The WaTTeR lab participates in CMU’s Earth and Ecosystems Science Ph.D. program.

	MSE program
The WaTTeR lab participates in CMU's MS in Engineering program.

Undergraduate students
Undergraduate students from any discipline are welcome to join our research activities. Students are trained in experimental and analytical methods
asn well as data analysis and presentation. Students are expected to spend at least 3 hours per week working on research.

If you are interested in joining the WaTTeR Lab send an email to Dr. Márquez with the following information:
- The program you are interested in (MSE or EES PhD) or in what capacity you want to join the lab
- One page resume
- Funding plan (explain whether you need partial funding, full funding or no funding)
- Reasons why you want to join the lab

Fully funded positions will be posted here as available. Partial funding is possible on a case by case basis.

Open positions
Master in Engineering position available to start in Fall 2023.
