My research interests are in two main areas:

1) algal taxonomy, morphology and ecology and 2) aquatic vascular plants with particular interests in the sedge family Cyperaceae. I utilize electron microscopy (both scanning and transmission) as my major research tool.

1) My algal studies emphasize the taxonomy and ecology of the golden-brown algae in general, but especially the group known as the silica-scaled chrysophytes. Secondarily it is the green algae.

2) This phase of my research emphasizes achene micromorphology as a taxonomic reference point. Secondarily I am interested in Michigan=s flora, especially Alocal floras@ and natural history and ecology of plants on Michigan=s Endangered, Threatened and Plants of Special Concern list.
